More About Tamil Nadu Holidays 2023

Tamil Nadu is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. It is located in south part of India and is bounded by states such as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Bay of Bengal, and Indian Ocean. History

The antiquity of the state takes us back to the history. It forms the oldest civilizations in the world with Dravidian culture rooted in it. The previois name sof the state was Tamilham and the ancient ports such as Karipattinam, Arikamedu, and Korkai are the proof of Tamilham settlements.

  • The Chola Dynasty ruled over the famous districts such as Thanjavur and Tiruchirapalli between the 1st and 4th centuries. And during this period, temples were built due to military prowess of the Cholas. After 400 years, the Pallavas took control over the city by fourth century. However, Cholas left the city in 9th century and rose to high prominence.
  • Later, Pandyas took control in 14th century by defeating Alauddin Khilji. British became powerful after establishing its power over Dutch and French. In 1947 Nationalist Movement started and took dominance over French and Dutch. Madras Presidency became Madras, comprising the Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Northern Kerala, and Karnataka post-independence. However, the state was divided into the linguistic diversity and Madras got renamed as Tamil Nadu.

Culture

The state follows the ancient Dravidian civilization, the people of Tamil Nadu follows the deep rooted rich culture in Tamil Nadu. The state has seen several Hindu dynasties and even today the people have strong deep roots of Hinduism. 85% of the population is Hindus and rest is Christians and Muslims.
