How to Apply for PAN Card?

PAN Card which stands for Personal Account Number is a very important document which is used everywhere like Income Tax filings, banks account opening and it is also provided as proof. PAN Card comes with the 10 digit alphanumeric numbers that are unique to every cardholder. In this article, we will discuss how to apply for PAN Card and what are the documents required for PAN.

Documents Required for PAN Card

 Proof of Identity

  • Copy of voter’s identity card
  • Ration card with the applicant’s photograph
  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of driving license
  • Arm’s license
  • Copy of Aadhar card issued by Unique Identification Authority of India
  • Photo identity card issued by the central government or state government or any other public sector undertaking
  • Central government health scheme card
  • Bank certificate containing an attested photograph of the applicant along with bank account number of the applicant
  • Copy of pensioner card having a photograph of the applicant
  • Certificate of identity in original signed by a Member of Parliament or Member of Legislative Assembly or Municipal Councilor

Address Proof 

  • Copy of electricity bills
  • Copy of landline bills
  • Copy of broadband connection bill
  • Bank account statements
  • Credit card statement
  • Post office passbook featuring address of the applicant
  • Passport
  • Passport of spouse
  • Voter identity card with photograph
  • Latest order for property tax assessment
  • Driving license
  • Domicile certificate issued by government
  • Aadhar card issued by Unique Identification Authority of India
  • Allotment letter
  • If submitting a copy of one of the first five documents, the documents should not be more than three months old.

Steps for Applying for PAN Card

PAN can be applied for both online and offline way. The online method is the easiest method to apply for the PAN Card. You can follow these steps to apply for the PAN Card online-

  • PAN card can be applied on NSDL Website or UTIITSL website which is authorized by the Government of India
  • Fill the form 49A that with  your details and click on Submit button
  • A new window with disclaimer will be prompted which where you can see the token number. Copy the token number to use for finding the PAN Status
  • Now click on the Continue with PAN application button
  • Now you will be provided with three options
    • Submit using e-KYC and e-Sign
    • Submit scanned images using e-sign
    • Forward application document physically
  • Choose the appropriate one, the recommended one is using the e-KYC method as it is the easiest
  • After selecting the document option filling of the application will be continued
  • Click next and further fill the form
  • Select the AO using the below provided AO selector
  • Now you have to pay for the PAN card using the debit/ Credit Card, Net Banking or Demand Draft
  • The fee associated with the PAN Application is Rs.93 (excluding GST) and for foreign address, the fee is Rs.864/-
  • The application for the PAN Card has been initiated and you will receive the update for the PAN online, SMS and email. You can track for the PAN Card using the temporary token number
