How Passport Police Verification is conducted?

Passport is a very important document for traveling abroad which provides the other country authorities with our identity as well as proof for being in the county in a legitimate way. The Passport application process is a very simple process that can be initiated using the online portal of the Passport Seva Kendra. After applying for the passport and getting approval from the Passport Seva Kendra one of the main questions that cross our mind how the Police Verification will be done. In this article, we will discuss how the Police Verification is conducted and what are the different status of the applications.

When you have completed your PSK Center process then you will be provided with the acknowledgment letter, this document will provide you with the verification process details. The Verification process is selected based on your application, there are three modes for use by the PSK to approve a passport-

  • Pre-Verification
  • Post-Verification
  • No Verification

Pre-Verification

Pre-Verification is the process where the Passport will be provided after the Physical verification of the individual. An officer will be assigned to visit your residential address and verify the individual address and identity.

Post-Verification

Post-Verification is the process where you will receive the Passport first and then the verification will be done. The local authorities will issue a Police Verification Certificate to the individual and passport will be further issued.

No Verification

No Verification is granted to those individuals who have submitted all the documents like PAN Card, EPIC Card, etc. but it is subject to the PSK decision for this kind of verification.

Document Required for Police Verification

You have to provide the police officer with some documents which will be used to verify your resident as well as identity. The following are the police verification document required for police verification-

Birth Proof: –

  • School / College Leaving certificate
  • SSC / HSC Passing Certificate.
  • Aadhaar Card.

Address Proof:-

  • Electricity Bill
  • Telephone Bill
  • Bank Account Passbook (at least last one year or 6 month)
  • Voter Id Card
  • PAN Card
  • Driving Licence
  • Parent’s passport copy
  • Student Id Card Issued By Recognized Educational Institutions
  • Registered Rent Agreement when address is different to present address.

How to Check Police Verification Status?

After the Initiation of Passport application from PSK to the Police Station, the police station issues some status update for the application. The following are the application status provided by the police station for the verification process-

  • Clear- It is a green signal which means that police found no reason to report the application with negative remarks. All the information provided by you is legit and there is no criminal record found.
  • Adverse- It is a status that gets reflected when there is some irregularity in the form and may result in the cancellation of the verification. The reason could be the incorrect address provided or any Criminal Case filed against the applicant.
  • Incomplete- This status means during the verification process, the application process is having some issue in the documentation. The police can label the application as incomplete due to lack of sufficient information.

Once the Verification is done then you will be informed about whether your passport application is approved or not. If you get an “Adverse“or “Incomplete” status then you can contact the police station concerned with your verification. You can follow these instructions if you get the Adverse or Incomplete status-

Adverse Status Police Verification for Passport

Adverse Status will get reflect under two circumstances-

  • Address not verified– In this case, you can have your application re-verified if it is due to you not present on the address during verification simply by Writing to RPO.
  • Criminal Record against you– In this Case, if and only if the Criminal Case has been solved against you then only you can reapply for the verification

Incomplete Status Police Verification for Passport

Incomplete Status will reflect in your report under three circumstances-

  • Residence for Less than one Year– All the address where the applicant lived during one year must be verified, failing will affect the status of the verification
  • Incomplete Document– If you are unable to provide the police officer with the adequate document then the status will be issued towards your application. It is advised to provide all the above-mentioned document.
  • Police Officer has not filled the report properly– In this case, contact the PSK and Police Station. Usually, if the police officer filed incorrectly then the file is reverting back to the officer to do report it correctly.

There is also an option for verification online that is being adopted by the police stations. This is done by using the online means to verify the passport application. This enables fast and effective delivery of passport application. This also brought down the application time consumed for the police verification as police officer main job is to maintain the Law & Order instead of verifying the document.
