What is AEDL?

A driver’s license is a mandatory document that you’ll have to carry with you while riding any vehicle in India. Your driving license contains information related to the vehicle category you are authorized to drive.

If you wish to add a new vehicle category to your existing license, you can do that easily by applying for the AEDL category license.

AEDL stands for Additional Endorsement of Driving Licence, which means an addition of the vehicle category to the driving license.

In simpler words, AEDL is nothing but a license application that connects your existing license with an additional category of license.

The following are the eligibility of the AEDL-

  • Minimum of 18 years of age is mandatory for the applicant
  • The applicant must have the driver’s license for at least 2 years and should be using it without cancellation or blacklisting
  • The applicant should not have any driving bank for at least six months before the application
  • The driver should have a clean log of driving

How to apply for the AEDL?

Applying for the AEDL is very easy. You can apply for the AEDL By following these steps-

  • Visit the official website of the Parivahan portal, select the state where you live, and then navigate to the services section
  • Now, a form will appear where you’ll have to enter your Driver’s License number, and date of birth, solve the captcha, and click on the proceed button
  • After clicking on the proceed button, your details will be displayed on the screen which you’ll have to confirm
  • After checking the details, click on the continue button, and a page will be displayed with three options- PSV Badge, Surrender PSV Badge, and AEDL service option
  • Here, choose the AEDL option and then click on the proceed button
  • After clicking on the proceed button, the NOC transaction page will be displayed which you’ll have to select from the dropdown options followed by clicking on the confirm option
  •  Now, a declaration will be displayed which you’ll have to confirm by clicking on the check boxes followed by clicking on the submit button
  • After clicking on the submit button, confirm the acknowledgment form and click on the proceed button followed by uploading the documents mentioned below
  • After uploading the documents, you’ll have to pay for the application fee in the next step
  • After completion of the payment, you’ll have to download the payment receipt and the application form for future reference
  • This will also provide you with the application reference number which you can use for tracking the application

Documents Required for AEDL

The following are the documents required for the AEDL-

  • A valid learner’s license/driving license.
  • Address proof (Passport, Aadhaar carddr, house agreement, or ration card)
  • Age proof (Birth certificate, PAN card, 10th mark sheet, or transfer certificate)
  • Driving certificate and Form no.5, 14 & 15 (for transport vehicles license)
  • Medical certificate (form 1) signed and attested by a certified Government doctor
  • Endorsement of a driver’s license in the transport category
